Set up in the late 50’s with an initial annual capacity of one million tonnes of crude steel per year, the capacity of Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) was later expanded to 1.6 million tonnes in the 70’s. A massive modernization programme was undertaken in the plant in early 90’s, which, while bringing numerous technological developments in the plant, enhanced the capacity of the plant to 2.088 million tonnes of hot metal,1.8 million tonnes crude steel and 1.586 million tonnes saleable steel.
Durgapur Steel Plant has undertaken a major augmentation programme for its existing Power Distribution facilities. Under this scheme, four new HT Substations are being added and two existing outdoor substations are being converted into Indoor substations. These substations will feed power to various new facilities Viz. Raw Material Handling, Sinter Plant, Coke Oven Battery, BOF, Medium & Structural Mills.
Sterling and Wilson was chosen to work on MV Power Distribution for Ph-1 Facilities at Sail – Durgapur Steel Plant.
- Engineering, procurement, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all electrical equipment for 33KV/11KV/3.3 KV Medium Voltage Power Distribution system involving construction of 6 nos. sub-station building, 3 KM of overhead interconnecting cable bridge, Illumination System, Fire Hydrant system, MVWS system, FDA & Telephonic System, Air Conditioning &Ventilation System on turnkey basis
- The major electrical equipment involved under this package is 27 nos.Transformers ranging from 1 MVA to 20 MVA, 300 nos. HT Panels of 3.3 KV /11KV/33 KV, 6.6KV/33 KV cables, LT/HT Busduct, HT Capacitor Banks, Battery & Charger and other auxiliary equipment
